Will a drop waist dress flatter your figure?

Learning which styles flatter your figure can be difficult, but it’s totally worth it! Once you figure out those select styles that look the best on your body shape, you’ll not only look better, but you’ll feel more comfortable and confident in your clothing!

Finding which styles fit my body the best has been an ongoing process. I used to try and wear all the latest trends, but found out the hard way that not all styles look good on my 5’2″ figure. Whenever I would wear something that didn’t flatter my figure (think capri pants for me), I never felt “cute” or comfortable. But, once I started to only invest in those silhouettes that flattered my figure and accentuated my “good areas”, did I start to look and feel better.

Now, one important thing I’ve learned along the way is that the styles of clothing that flatters you in one season of life may not flatter your figure in another. So, as your body changes, let your clothing shift with you whether that’s due to weight loss, pregnancy, or age.

Lately, I’ve been gravitating toward those styles that will draw attention away from my midsection because I’m still trying to tone that area and get it back to my pre-baby figure. So, loose-fitting tops and drop-waist dresses have been a go-to in this season of my life.

I love drop waist dresses right now because the low waistline draws one’s eye away from my midsection and makes the focus on my legs. Drop waist dresses do put a lot of emphasis on the hips, so if you’re trying to hide that area or make your hips look more slender, this may not be the best silhouette for your body type.

So, will this style of dress look flattering on your figure? Read on!

4 body types that look good in a drop waist dress:

1. slender – these dresses are perfect for showing off your long legs, collarbone, and thin arms! loose-fitting and form-fitting drop-waist styles will both look good on a slender figure; don’t let it get too baggy or it might overwhelm your figure especially if you’re short and slender

2. apple shape – this dress is perfect to draw attention away from your mid-section; opt for a loose-fitting drop-waist dress; I have especially loved this silhouette post-baby b/c it lets me hide my insecurities.

3. plus size – loose-fitting drop-waist dresses will look great on your figure and will draw attention to your legs and arms and will work to elongate your figure!

4. hour glass – go for fitted drop waist to draw attention to your smaller waistline – you still want to highlight your best areas!

note: if you’re pear-shaped and still want to give the drop-waist look a go, then I would opt for a drop-waist dress that has strong detailing around the neckline to draw the attention to your chest/neck
