How and Why You Should Give Up Cable Now

Combining two of my favorite trends this season for a feminine fall look. Layering this grey duster over this white dress with a victorian-inspired ruffle collar and ruffle cuffs.

Happy Thursday, friends! So glad you stopped by! Today’s post is two-fold! Of course I am dying to share this look – under $50, with you guys, but I am also getting a bit personal. I hope you all know that I love sharing fashion finds and the latest trends with you guys, but my favorite part about blogging is actually connecting with you guys! So, as time goes on I will start to share more and more of my personal life with you all. Whether I’m sharing mommy struggles, real-life problems, or funny stories, we’re going to start having a bit more fun! And, if there’s ever something you want me to chat about, please just leave it in the comment section of this post or email me!

Without further ado, let’s chat about this look and then we’ll talk Cable TV (I promise it’s more exciting than it sounds). I love the Victorian inspired collar and cuff trend this Fall and love the subtle way this dress takes on that trend. This dress is one color (white – shocker), which lets the ruffles do the talking. I love working with a shift dress because it lends many options. You could wear it solo with cute booties, you could belt it around the waist and add OTK boots for height, OR you could layer it under a cozy Fall sweater.

I’m sure you’ve been seeing grey dusters everywhere like I have, but that can get pricey. I found this guy from ASOS though and it’s under $50! It’s a great piece to have because it’s so neutral you can wear it with a lot. Who doesn’t love the simple look of jeans, a white tee, and a duster?

Now, so onto the “personal” part of today’s post – cable TV. Okay, you’re going to need a bit of backstory on this one. First of all, you need to know that I am simply not a big TV person. I’m just not. Sure, I love a couple shows – This Is Us, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, etc., but TV is just not my thing. I could easily go without it and have been saying that since Trav and I got married. This brings me to my second point. TV was actually the biggest obstacle as newlyweds. Not exactly TV, but sports ON television. My husband is one of 3 boys and sports were and are a huge part of their livelihood. I think it’s awesome and I love learning, but I’m really a one sport gal – that being baseball.

Anyway, when we first got married we were like polar opposites when it came to TV. I wanted next to zero TV time and Travis wanted to watch live sports…like all the live sports. If you aren’t a big sports fan, you should know that there is always a live sports game on. Always. I learned that real quick.

Okay, so what does this have to do with Cable TV? Well, apart from live sports games, Trav was in agreement that we barely watched TV. So for years I would ask to give up Cable and he would say no because there’s just something about seeing a game live. Then, after we watched out AT&T bill rise to $200/month we started asking why we were paying so much. Ultimately, we were only watching live sports on TV and the Disney channel. So all of that (plus our wifi) for $200. That’s insane this day and age when so much is streamed.

So, we decided we would end Cable TV (Praise the Lord) and get Sling Box. We already have Apple TV and Netflix, so the first month we relied on that. We then decided to get HBO Now because most of our adult shows are on HBO. Trav was also able to stream all the important games he wanted to see. And guess what? We absolutely love it! Both of us! Not only are we saving over $100 a month, but the TV is on a lot less leaving more time for family, and so far we’ve been able to stream every single thing we’ve wanted to watch. I will say the quality of sports games when streaming is not quite as good as HD on Cable, but it’s worth saving over $100/month and it’s worth never having to speak to an AT&T representative, haha.

So all this to say, if you’re debating cutting Cable TV to switch over to streaming – do it! It’s so worth it and you’ll save a ton of money!!
